Fallen

Lest we forget memorial
Fallen

Day4

Week1

2 Samuel

”“Then he said to me, ‘Stand over me and kill me, for I have been mortally wounded, yet I am still alive.’ “So I stood beside him and killed him because I knew that he could not live after he had fallen. Then I took the crown that was on his head and the armlet that was on his arm, and I have brought them here to my Lord.” Then David took hold of his clothes and tore them, as did all of the men who were with him. They mourned and wept and fasted until evening for Saul, Jonathan his son, the people of the Lord, and the house of Israel, because they had fallen by the sword.“

‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭1‬:‭9‬-‭12‬ ‭MEV‬‬

Fallen

It is a somber scene in our passage today. I couldn’t help noticing the contrast here.

Saul had fallen on his sword, taking his own life and the other Israelite soldiers had fallen by the sword in battle.

All were mourned.

Grief is a tricky emotion. No matter how death occurs, there is still grief to follow.

David had a deep affection for all who had fallen, regardless of how he had been treated by them.

Have you lost someone close to you?

Maybe your loved one has fallen in battle or to illness. Maybe their life was taken or possibly they took their own.

Regardless of how, you still felt grief and maybe you still do.

God is close to the broken hearted. (Psalm 34:18) There is a time for mourning and a time to dance. (Ecclesiastes 3:4-5)

Today, let’s take some time to reflect and celebrate those who have fallen.

Action Step

”Blessed be God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble by the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.“

‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭1‬:‭3‬-‭4‬ ‭MEV‬‬

Where do you need God’s comfort today?

Talk to Him honestly about what’s on your mind and heart.

Consider offering comfort to a friend through prayer and reach out to them with a text or a call.
